The age of the computer has become so ingrained in our lives that we need it everyday. With all of this work on the computer, people will need to save the information on some type of data storage unit. The two formats, SDHC vs SDXC, have become a well known format for people these days. The advantages are numerous with the SD family type of data storage.

Speaking of memory cards for cameras, the SD family of storage devices have many different formats that determine what is the best. The computer system can also determine what would be the most logical way of being able to store data. The range goes from more information storage to a different way of saving the information. This can be a very important detail for those who want to store information with a particular format.

SDHC stands for secure digital high capacity. This is an added method of the standard information storage labeled as the SD family. The highest storage capability is set to 32 gigabytes. It has the same method as the older SD cards. This type of SD family uses the sector addressing type to store data. The byte addressing is used for older data storing devices.

The method known as byte addressing will be able to a person up to 4 gigabytes. The other format known as sector addressing can go up to 32 GB. It is said that the format will be able to go over 32. This type of method will not work on the older forms of computers. The label for the older type is the SD 1.0 format which is based on the method of storage for the older models.

In 2009, the SDXC or the secure digital extended capacity was revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show or CES. The older SDHC can be expanded to over 32 GB but has been limited by industry standards. This is limited by the SD 2.0 specifications. The first SDXCs are governed by a 3.0 designation. The newer ones are governed by a SD specification of 4.0 which was declared in the year 2011.

The speeds set for SDXCs with a SD 3.0 set up was introduced as 832 Mbit per second which is called UHS104 speeds. The SD 4.0 is setup to have transfer rates of 2.4 gbits per second. The official format for the SDXC is the exFAT file system. Other file systems such NTFS and others can be used on the storage unit is need be. This is one of the benefits of this device.

The year 1999 saw the creation of the SD format through SanDisk, Matsushita, and Toshiba. They developed the market in opposition to the Sony Memory Stick which was put out by MagicGate DRM. The SD method was brought to the world by MultiMediaCard. The two would change the face of the way that data was stored.

The main point focused on SDHC vs SDXC depends on what format and computer the person has in their possession. The good thing about the SDXC model is that it can store more than the SDHC. This has become one of the main points, the ability to store more data to save the items that people need. The choice depends on the format and what is trying to be saved.
