Getting A Good Photographer In Chicago For Your Wedding

By Karin Garcia

The one thing I would point out as being important when hiring a photographer is to know that this is a skill that is half art, half trade. Some photographers for hire can be too much on on end of the spectrum, and either extreme is a bad thing if you want good wedding photography done. I will show you how you avoid these people.

A super artsy photographer that only does weddings out of love for the art will not be ideal in real world terms. He or she will focus more on the artistic value of each image, then making sure he or she captures everything you want captures. Sure, all the photos will be gallery worthy, but there will be few of them and they won't capture everything you want captured.

As bad as the artisan can get in not capturing enough events, people and moments - the entrepreneur-with-a-camera is just as bad. This person only views photography as a money-making venture and shows no emotion toward photography or making beautiful imagery. A person like this will not invest even a single ounce of emotion in capturing the beauty and wonder of your wedding, and will only try to get by with photographs that are merely "technically correct".

Your ideal match should be someone who is an artist, but also thinks like a professional. This is very easy to assess if you simply interview the person. Ask them what brought them into photography, what excites them about it and what they can do for you in terms of "capturing the beauty of the moment". It also helps to see their portfolio.

When you have made sure the person is passionate about photography, you have only met your first criterion. To meet the second criterion, you need to go ahead and see how this person handles business. Ask them what they think about contracts, how they handle payments, how they handle marketing and other business questions. If they respond in a very casual manner, where they seem to be treating business as a side thing, this is not good. If they respond like a business person - this is great!
